Several musicians and performers have altered pop music but Elvis changed the world. In 2006 I began a series of works using Elvis as a metaphor for the human condition, contemporary American culture and THE 20th century icon. He IS the King.
I was a kid when Elvis broke and his electricity fused our '50s Norman Rockwell neighborhood. I watched his first TV spots and 'Hound Dog' was the first record I bought. In the '60s when I was in a band with Gram Parsons we were listening to Elvis again.
